The 15th of August is the date of the annual Kenmare Fair. This event is one of the highlights of Kenmare’s Diary and is a must if you’ve never experienced it. (Not to be confused with the Kenmare Market Day every Wednesday) The town will be packed, so be prepared for trafffic chaos and parking madness - but it’s worth a visit as it’s a unique experience.

Fair day was a major part and parcel of all market towns in Ireland in days gone by, but now it’s all but a distant memory for most towns. Kenmare has one of the few remaining authentic Fairs and you’ll find all manor of beast and fowl on sale…

There’s something for everyone with an eclectic mix of horse sales, power tools, fortune telling, pints, music and a general madness in the air.

If you are looking for Horse Riding, Eclipse Equestrian Centre has a wonderful outdoor arena and a range of horse riding activities for all. From Trekking to Riding Lessons, the centre has something for all horse lovers. Specialist lessons in Show Jumping and Dressage can also be arranged.

Kenmare Market is a lively outdoors market held every Wednesday in Kenmare Town on the Square.

You’ll find a large food section with cheeses, olives, fresh fish, fresh breads and take away food, there are also plenty of antiques, bric a brac, books and tools…

The Allied Irish Bank (AIB) is on Main Street and has comprehensive banking services including Foreign Exchange and ATM on the Henry Street side of the building.

The Motor Museum is a must for anyone with an interest in cars and their history. The Mitchels have been restoring cars for generations and have a wonderful collection of beautiful classic and vintage cars. I can highly recommend a trip to the Motor Museum for anyone interested in cars.
