Purcell Gallery on Main St has a very interesting collection of paintings for the discerning collector.

It’s a wonderful space and the gallery has assembled a very interesting show for their opening on Friday the 26th June.

The new gallery exhibits the stunning landscape work of photographer Eoghan Kavanagh. I would recommend a trip in to see the pieces as the internet doesn’t really do them justice. The visual impact of the photographs is hard to describe. The work has a crisp holographic quality as it is shot on a large format plate camera. The presentation is also unique and very appealing as the printing and mounting is done in-house. The photographs are hand printed and are available in limited edtions.

These photographs are works of art and are the perfect gift (or just indulge yourself and splash out!)

Nest is one of my favourite shops in Kenmare. It has a great selection of gifts, homeware and childrens clothes, toys and knick knacks. The range is eclectic and has obviously been carefully chosen with an eye to design and quality. The name really appeals to me – I like the idea that this shop is for those creating a nest, but of course it’s also a clever play on the Irish name for Kenmare (Neidin) which means little nest! This is one shop that is well worth a visit if you are looking for something that’s a little bit special…

Quills on Main Street Kenmare has a wide range of gifts and clothing. With everything from Irish sweaters to sheepskins, if you are looking for a present to take home or a memento from Ireland, Quills is a good bet and well worth a visit.

Kenmare Market is a lively outdoors market held every Wednesday in Kenmare Town on the Square.

You’ll find a large food section with cheeses, olives, fresh fish, fresh breads and take away food, there are also plenty of antiques, bric a brac, books and tools…

PFK is an Aladdin’s cave of beautiful jewellery. Paul F. Kelly is a talented goldsmith and silversmith and PFK is both his showroom and workshop in Kenmare. Working in precious metals and gemstones Paul’s work has a modern feel with clean lines and a wonderful finish which results in really wearable and yet stunning pieces.

PFK also displays a very select range of pieces from other jewellers, carefully chosen to match Paul’s commitment to quality in design.

If you are looking for a treat head out to Bonane to Lorge Choclatier. Benoit Lorge makes the most delicious hand made chocolates. Originally from Lorraine in France and now settled in Kenmare, this award winning chef has created a chocolate lovers paradise. Located about 5km from Kenmare in Bonane (out the Glengarriff road) this is well worth a visit.
