Glengarriff

Monday, May 11th, 2009

Glengarriff is well worth a visit if you have a spare afternoon. It’s about a 30 min drive over the mountain and the trip itself is one of the most visually stunning in the area. The road takes you up through Bonane and Turners Tunnels and then down into Glengarriff, which is a picturesque village on Bantry Bay.

Famed as a historic tourist destination, with a variety of things to do. A trip to Garnish Island is a must – to see the seal colony and the magnificent gardens. The Glengarriff Nature Reserve is an ancient Oak woodland which is popular with walkers and ramblers.

Seafari offers an exciting wildlife cruise of Kenmare bay. Leaving from the pier, the cruise is hosted by Captain Ross, who is a qualified biologist and experienced seafarer. The standard eco cruise is a 10 mile voyage, which includes a visit to Ireland’s largest seal colony and some great bird and wildlife spotting. This is a great trip for children and adults alike.
