Wharton

Wharton’s is an amazing chipper! I  know it’s strange to rave about chips but these are of the wonderful hand cut variety. Located on Main Street, this institution is famed for it’s fresh fish in batter, fried chicken and burgers as well as its legendary chips. You can eat in or take away. It’s a fast friendly service.

Leath Phingin

A wonderful restaurant on Main Street in Kenmare.

The restaurant is now run by Eddie and Gaelen Malcolmson, formerly of the lovely Linenmill Restaurant in Westport. Westport’s loss is most definitely Kenmare’s gain. It’s an ideal evening venue, the food is superb and the service is outstanding.

The picture is of the beautifully carved half door which depicts an Irish decimal era half penny (or leath phingin in Irish – hence the name).

Prego

Prego on Henry Street specialises in food with an Italian flavour. Gerry and his team have a delicious range of pasta’s and pizza’s and salads, however there’s also plenty of other choice on the menu. It’s a wonderful place for lunch on a sunny day as the outdoor tables at the back are in a beautiful sun-trap.

Prego also caters for evening meals and has a warm friendly candlelit ambiance. The staff are friendly and helpful, the food good and the coffee is great!

Prego is open all day from 9.00am – so whether it’s breakfast lunch or dinner this restaurant is definitely worth a visit…

pfmccarthy

PF McCarthy’s is one of the most popular pubs in Kenmare. It’s on Main Street – so you can’t really miss it. McCarthy’s is a warm and welcoming friendly pub which combines a great food menu, with some great live music. It’s popular with locals and visitors alike as it blends the traditional Irish pub with a really nice eatery. Paul and his team also have a really good lunchtime menu and the beergarden at the back means you can eat outside if the weather permits!

If you’re looking for a good pint, great food or a night out with live music I would highly recommend a visit to McCarthy’s…

Jam on Henry Street is always hopping! It’s a great place for lunch or just to pop into for coffee. Jam specializes in home cooked food and the quality is affirmed by the queues out the door! The food is great and the service is always friendly and efficient. Jam has its own dedicated bakery, so the breads are all fresh and the cakes are amazing.

The menu is mainly soups, sandwiches, breads, scones, salads, quiches, lasagnes, pies, cakes and desserts – a must on any visit to Kenmare…

Davitt's

Davitt’s

Davitt’s on Henry Street, like many traditional Kenmare establishments, is a Pub, Restaurant and B&B. Mary and Donal Cremin have created a thriving business which melds old world charm and welcome with all the comforts you would expect from a modern hotel. The restaurant is surprisingly spacious inside and the food is delicious. The staff are friendly and efficient and even on the busiest of days the food is served quickly. They do a roaring lunch trade and later transform into a very nice evening venue.

The accommodation is first class and is located in a newly built section which is at the rear of the building and is distanced and insulated from the craic in the pub.
